A communication system uses symbols xi, X2, X3, X4, Xs. The symbols are sent at a rate of 500ksyms/sec. (a) Assume all symbols are equally likely. What is average information per symbol (entropy) and what is the average information rate? (b) Suppose the symbols are not equally likely: Xi is six times more likely than each of the other four. Find th probability of each symbol, the entropy, and the average information rate.
