b) Transmitting of binary sequence using the raised cosine-shaped proved to be more efficient for it has narrower main lobe and flatter tails as compared to the sinc-shaped pulse [50 marks). i. Suppose a communication system is design to transmit binary sequence of "10010" using the raised cosine-shaped pulses of amplitudes +1 volts and –1 volts, roll off factor (a =1) and having transmission speed (bit rate) of 50,000 bits/sec. Plot the pulse sequence to indicate the modulation process. [The plot should include all signals corresponding to the binary sequence, including the resultant signal and the bit period. [20 marks] ii. Design as simple pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) receiver that will detect the received signal. (10 marks] iii. Draw the received signal and indicate how the receiver extracts the digital information for the [20 marks] user.
