(a) Explain, in your own words, why it is necessary to perform pre-warping when using the Bilinear Z-Transform (BZT). [3 marks] (b) Compare IR filters and FIR filters, and discuss their advantages and disadvantages. [4 marks] (c) An analogue filter is described by the following transfer function: HS) S+0.5 The equivalent digital filter is to be designed with a 3 dB cut-off frequency at 120 Hz and minimum attenuation stopband of 300 Hz. (1) Using the Bilinear Z-Transform determine the z-domain transfer function for the analogue filter. Plot the pole-zero positions. [8 marks] (ii) Derive the difference equation for the digital filter and sketch the direct- form implementation of the digital filter. [5 marks]
