= Question 4 (a) A nucleus X has a quadruple moment 4.20 barns = 4.20 x 10-24 cm² = 420 fm?. It is assumed to be deformed and its axes are a = 7.1 fm and b = 6.0 fm. If the nuclear density is p= 0.17 fin-3, find the charge and atomic mass of this nucleus. (7) (b) A certain even-parity shell-model state can hold up to a maximum of 24 nucleons; what are its values of j and ? (c) The 150 (111.9556 MeV) nucleus in the 1p1/2 state is an 10 (127.6193 MeV) nucleus deficit in one neutron (50+ón + $0) and 10 (131.7627 MeV) in 1852 state is an 160 with a surplus neutron (460+6n+]"0). Find the energy gap [E(1/3) - E(1p;)) between 1p1/2 and 1852 states. Hint: First find B(150) - B(160), and B(160) - B(170) energies. [20] (6) (7)
