The Key FOB Controller consists of a Control Unit, which in turn possesses a Signal Receiver as well as a FOB Detector. The Control Unit interfaces with the Start Button as well as the Engine, the Trunk, and the Door. The Key FOB transmits the lock signal to the Signal Receiver. Once a button on the Key FOB is pressed, the Signal Receiver checks the FOB ID to see if the key matches the car. If not, the Signal Receiver discontinues all concurrent operations. Meanwhile, the FOB Detector checks, if the Key FOB is the Location of the Key FOB, which may be either “Outside," "Insider Passenger Area," or "Inside Trunk." If the ID is valid and the location of the Key FOB has been determined, the FOB Con- troller checks the button type and “press count.” Press count means how often a button was pressed consecutively. This is only relevant for the door button: upon the first button press, only the driver-side door is unlocked. Upon the second button press, all other doors are also unlocked. If the button is pressed a third time, all doors are locked again. The trunk and engine buttons work similarly: once pressed, the trunk is released and can be opened. Once the engine button is pressed, the engine is started. However, this can only happen when the Key FOB is inside the passenger compartment of the car. Similarly, if the Key FOB is in the trunk, the trunk can be closed, but will immediately be released such that the Key FOB can't be accidentally locked inside the trunk. Once the start button inside the car is pressed, the Key FOB location is also checked and then, if it is inside the passenger compart- ment, the engine is started. Otherwise, only the ignition is activated.
