Data mining is big business. We are willing to share our
personal data in all sorts of situations. Free services, such as
email, or loyalty program that give us discounts or free
food/merchandise not only collect our data but we give freely give
the providers the right to monitor our activities. Advertisers and
corporations argue that by giving them our information and allowing
our activities to be tracked, they can provide us with the goods
and services we will want, targeted to our own needs, wants and
desires. Privacy advocates argue that this data mining is intrusive
and gives corporations too much influence in our lives.
Review the article titled The Four Benefits of Data Mining:
Google's Side of the Story
(https://www.infosecurity-magazine.com/n ... ng-google/.).
Reflect on what we have read and learned this week about database,
database security and the arguments made in the referenced
article.
