In a study examining the relationship between oral contraceptives and urinary tract infection, you follow over a 3-year period women who do and women who do NOT use oral contraceptives. At the beginning of the study o participants had experienced a urinary tract infection. Over the 3-year period, you find that 60 of the 500 individuals who used oral contraceptives developed a urinary tract infection while 150 of 3,000 individuals who did NOT use oral contraceptives developed a urinary tract infection.
