Household data from two U.S. states (New York and Tennessee) indicate the weekly expenditure in US dollars on internet purchases before and during the pandemic caused by COVID. Five households are sampled from each state. X1 and X2 are denoted as the weekly internet purchases of a household in New York before and during pandemic respectively. Y1 and Y2, are denoted for a household in Tennessee. The four variables follow normal distributions but with unequal variances. That is to test Ho: My, = 70 against H4: Hy< 70. Find a suitable critical region and use it to conclude the test at 0.1 significance level. b) Can we claim that the mean household weekly internet expenditure in New York has increased by more than 10 dollars due to pandemic? That is to test Ho: Mxz - Mx2 = 10 against Hy: Mxz - Hx>10. Determine the p-value and use it to conclude the test at 0.02 significance level. c) Can we claim that the weekly internet expenditure of the households in the two states are different before pandemic hit? That is to test Ho: Hx, = Hly, against Hz: Hx, Hyy. Find a suitable confidence interval to conclude the test at 0.05 significance level.
