Simple Harmonic Motion 1 A student has a spring of unknown spring constant, and assembles it together with a mass of 500g to make an oscillating mass on a horizontal spring. They extends the spring by 0.08m and releases it, observing via experiment that the mass oscillates with a time period of 0.65s. a) Calculate the angular frequency of the oscillating mass. (1 mark) b) Hence or otherwise calculate the spring constant of the spring. (2 marks) c) Calculate the maximum acceleration of the mass. (2 marks) d) The student releases the mass again and it begins to oscillate. State the first three times at which the velocity is a maximum. (3 marks)
