Using the prenatal case study patient that was assigned to you,
answer the following questions about that client's care:
1. Identify her GTPAL and a problem
list of all medical & social issues from her
chart that will need to be addressed during her delivery or
hospitalization. Do not include historical items
that are not relevant to her intrapartum or postpartum
care!
2. Identify 2 problems from this list
that post the most significant risk to her health during her
delivery or hospital course.
3. Which risks or complications would you be most
concerned about during her labor and delivery related
to each of these 2 problems?
4. Which complications would you be most concerned about during
her postpartum course related to each of these 2
problems?
5. What nursing interventions might you implement to reduce risk
or assess for these complications?
6. Despite your interventions you promptly discover that you
client is experiencing a postpartum hemorrhage. List 5
interventions you would perform immediately.
7. List one uterotonic medication which you could safely give to
this patient when Pitocin has already been given and is
ineffective.
8. What side effects would you be watching for after
giving this medication?
9. Are there
any neonatal (newborn) complications
that her baby is at increased risk for following
delivery based on her problem list?
What are they?
10. What assessments or nursing interventions would you
perform to evaluate for these possible neonatal
complications after delivery?
Example:
1. G1P0000: obesity, thrombocytopenia, rubella
non-immune, inadequate housing
2. obesity & thrombocytopenia
3. obesity: prolonged labor, labor dystocia
thrombocytopenia: excessive bleeding
4. obesity: PPH, DVT thrombocytopenia: PPH
