J.J., age 52, presents to the E.R. after developing acute flank
pain within the past 24 hours that she states “comes and goes.” She
reports some discomfort with urination, which she describes as
“spasms when I pee.” Laboratory tests show a small amount of
hematuria and a slight increase in WBC in her blood and urine. Her
pain rating was a 9 on a scale from 1 to 10 (with 10 being the
highest).
