Details on the solution used in the experiment.
Solution I: A saturated solution of calcium hydroxide in
deionized water.
Solution II: A saturated solution of calcium hydroxide
in 0.1 M sodium hydroxide.
Solution III: A saturated solution of calcium hydroxide
in 0.05 M sodium hydroxide.
Solution IV: A saturated solution of calcium hydroxide
in 0.025 M sodium hydroxide.
0.05 M of hydrochloric acid (solution used to
titrate)
Question:
From your titer’s values, calculate the total
concentration of hydroxide ion in each of the following solutions;
Solution I, Solution II, Solution III, and Solution
IV.
For the solutions II, III, and IV, calculate the
concentration of hydroxide ions which is derived from the dissolved
calcium hydroxide. This is done by subtracting the hydroxide ions
concentration derived from sodium hydroxide from the total
hydroxide ions.
Calculate the solubility product of calcium hydroxide,
Ksp from the results of each experiment.
Compare the Ksp values obtained. What is the effect of
sodium hydroxide on the Ksp value of calcium
hydroxide?
What is the effect of hydroxide ion concentration on the
solubility of calcium hydroxide in water?
