Consider a spinless particle of mass m in a two-dimensional box of area L² with peri- odic boundary conditions. (a) What is the density of states, D(e), for this quantum mechanical system? (b) We now place N particles in our 2-D box. We assume non-interacting particles and fill the levels according to the Exclusion Principle with one particle per level (spinless particles, remember). Derive an expression for the ground state energy of the N-particles in terms of N, L, and fundamental constants.
