1. What would be the diameter of a tension tie that would be used for these arches if the allowable stress is 36 ksi. 2. Considering the allowable compressive stress is 16 ksi, what would the diameter of this arch be (no tension ties are used)? 3. Refer to Question 1 and determine what would change if these were cables instead of arches. I What would happen to the tension ties? Would they still be tension ties? 4. What would happen if we lowered the right support of the cables in Question 4? The lowest part of the cable would still be 30 ft below the left support and 180 ft away from the left support. How would the reactions change in the cable? 5. What would happen to the forces and dimensions on Question 1 and 2 if the height of the arch is 20 ft instead of 30.
