Problem 3 (34) points Water is flowing in a drainage canal (n=0.02) with a cross-section shown in the figure. Bottom width is 3m, banks height is 5 m, right side slope is 2:1 (H:V), bottom slope is 0.001, and the flow depth is 2m. Assuming uniform flow, 1. Compute the flow rate in the channel. 2. Compute the maximum flow rate that may be delivered in the canal without overtopping.
3. Determine if the flow can undergo a hydraulic jump, given the flow depth as in (1). 4. If the canal has been built originally as a rectangular canal with the same cross-sectional area, what would the height of the rectangular canal be, using same bottom width, and what is the maximum flow that can be delivered by the canal without overtopping (bottom slope and Manning's n remain the same).
5. Compare your answers to questions 2 and 4 and explain.
