Redesigning an item or product
Task
Identify an item or product that you use every day (it could be
an item from your workplace or from home or another place, that has
been regularly upgraded or redesigned over the years. For example,
an iPhone).
When thinking about an item or product, consider change factors
such as new technology, or even climate factors such as plastic
waste, so that you are thinking about the influences the external
environment has on items and products.
Guidelines
Step 1: Identifying your item or product.
Identify the items or products you would like to redesign. You
may find it helpful to complete a mind map for this step of your
activity, to help you focus on what item or product would be a good
option to redesign.
Step 2: Re-designing your item or product. Get
creative!
After you have considered the advantages and disadvantages of
your item or product. outline what changes and/or improvements you
would make to the item or product. Be as creative and innovative as
possible and have some fun with your ideas! Agree the changes and
write them down.
Step 3: Analysing advantages and disadvantages
of your redesigned item or product.
Now that you have decided on your item or product discuss the
advantages and disadvantages of redesigning it the product.
Think about how your redesign will improve the product.
What about the market?
Who will buy it?
Will the consumers like the redesigned product, or will they be
unhappy that you have changed it?
Will this affect the popularity of the product?
Will people think the new design will cost them more?
Step 4: Writing up your re-design.
Once you have decided on what changes and improvements can be
made to the item or product, put together a brief report that
outlines the item or product and its current function, the changes
you have made, how these changes will improve the product, and
which consumers will find the redesigned item or product
attractive.
Your report headings are:
The maximum word count for this report is 300 words.
