Read the following case and answer all questions.
Henry was the Chief Executive Officer of Delicacy Limited which
was one of the leading food production companies in Hong Kong.
Delicacy Limited supplied various food products to the restaurants
and hotels in Hong Kong and would also export those products to
overseas customers.
In 2019, Delicacy Limited faced intensive competition from
competitors and the demand from Japan became lower due to economic
downturn. The sales turnover had fallen 15% compared with previous
year. The Board of Delicacy Limited asked Henry to design and
implement some measures in order to attract more customers and
maintain the competitiveness of the company.
Henry discussed the issues with senior management and considered
redesigning the production process which could lower the cost by
20%. However, 5% of the employees could be laid off in this
redesign process in order to achieve cost reduction.
Henry considered various alternatives to this decision. It was
because Delicacy Limited had been awarded as Best Responsible
Corporation in 2016 and 2017. In addition, most of the employees
were paid one-and-half month salary as bonus in 2018 and the
company had also implemented a new and better employee-benefit
scheme in the company. These reflected that the company would
consider the interests of employees as the first priority and
laid-off was not the first choice in the agenda.
According to the estimation from Patrick, Chief Financial
Officer of Delicacy Limited, the redesign strategy could help the
company to reduce the overall prices of the products by 16% and
also increase 10% of the profits of the company.
Jacky, Director of Sales and Marketing of Delicacy Limited,
decided to implement a programme which aimed at promoting the
safety of products. The company would also upload the procurement
guideline to the website and the public could download and view the
guideline.
In addition, the company invited the consumers to join site
visits to the factory monthly and explained the production
processes to consumers. Therefore, the consumers could be familiar
with the internal processes of the company which helped them build
confidence in the products.
