1)
a) If a car with mass 1000 kg is driving at 21 m/sand brakes to
come to a stop:
- What is the initial momentum?
- What was its final momentum?
- What was the impulse the car experienced?
- if conservation of momentum is a law and must be true, what
happened to the car's momentum?
b) From part (a), is the car's impulse different if it braked
hard and quickly, vs if it braked gently and slowly? Why or why
not?
c) If the car from part (a) and part (b) braked to a stop over
the course of 3 seconds, what was the force the brakers exerted on
it?
