Table 1 showed the DIZ values of the extracts from hawthorn. The results indicated that the ME, EE and AE has certain antibacterial activity on all of the tested food-borne pathogens, while EAE has antibacterial activity on Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Shigella dysenteriae and Salmonella typhimurium. However, TE and PE has no significant antibacterial activity on all of the tested strains. Among them, ME and EE possessed the strongest antibacterial activity (20.4-29.7 mm). 4.2 Total flavonoids and total polyphenols contents The contents of total flavonoids and polyphenols in six hawthorn extracts is present in Fig. 2. The content of flavonoids in the different extracts showed a significant difference (P<0.05) ranged from 0.59 to 61.84 mg RE/g DW. The highest total flavonoid content is obtained in PE, followed by ethanol (EE), acetone (AE), ethyl acetate (EAE), trichloromethane (TE) and (ME) extracts. The total polyphenols contents showed a significant difference (P<0.05) and varied in the range from 2.66 to 38.40 mg GAE/g DW. Similar to total flavonoids, the total polyphenols contents decreased along with a decreasing order of solvent polarity (PE> EE> AE> EAE>TE>ME). Figure 2.
