Light incident on a slit aperture produces a single-slit diffraction pattern on a screen placed behind the slit. To understand the resulting diffraction pattern, consider the wavefront of light as represented by ten Huygens sources that are evenly-spaced across the width of the slit. The interference of light from each of these sources creates the resulting diffraction pattern on the screen. The following phasor diagrams represent interference of the light from these sources at different positions in the single-slit diffraction pattern. Each diagram has the same scale, and the individual phasors in all diagrams are the same length. Of the diagrams given, select the one that represents the greatest light intensity. π π 2 A I 2 0 I R π 2 0 0
