Beer with a specific gravity of 1.05 and viscosity of 1.5 mPa.s
and having 2% solids is clarified at a rate of 60 gallons per hour
in a bowl centrifuge. The density of solids is 1180 kg/m3. The
operating volume of the bowl is 25 gallons and operating at a speed
of 10,000 rpm. The bowl has a diameter of 4 and 3/16” and outlet
diameter is 1.5”. Calculate the effect on feed rate with an
increase in the bowl speed to 12,000 rpm and the minimum particle
size that can be removed at this higher speed. All conditions
except the bowl speed remain the same.
