Problem 3 A two-segment shaft is used to transmit power at constant speed through the pulleys shown below. Power is input to the shaft at B through a torque Te = 280 N.m. A torque TA = 90 N.m is removed from the shaft at A, and a torque Tc = 190 N.m is removed at C. The torques act in the directions shown. Segment (1): L₁ = 400 mm, di = 32 mm, and segment (2): L2 = 1 m, d2 = 40 mm. Both segments are solid shafts and of the same material with G = 40 GPa.
