Legally required standby systems are a subset of section 700 of the NEC.
a. What article defines legally required standby systems and what would be an example of the systems?
b. A 277V 1-phase legally required standby system is connected to a 200 kVA transformer with an impedance of %Z=3.2%. What is the minimum fault current rating for the equipment? What is the basis for your decision?
c. The same legally required standby system is connected to a 180 kW PF = .8 generator. If the transformer (primary source of power) was nearly fully utilized, is this a code compliant installation? If so provide citation, if not, provide citation and a possible solution to make it code compliant.
