As the energy industry has moved toward the production of green energy (wind and solar energy production as opposed to coal burning power plants), it has become difficult to procure fly ash for concrete construction projects. To address this issue, the New Mexico Department of Transportation has proposed to modify an existing accepted concrete mixture that uses 30% fly ash as a replacement for cement to a mixture where 25% of the cement is replaced with natural pozzolan and 10% of the cement is replaced with fly ash (for a total supplementary cementitious materials content of 35%). If the natural pozzolan has a specific gravity of 1.92 and the fly ash has a specific gravity of 2.05, describe the impact that this change will have on other aspects of the mix design.
