Assume a CMU wall is 14ft tall: a) Construct moment-axial force
interaction diagram for out of plane bending by using the Strength
Design (SD) approach by hand for an 8-in. CMU wall, which is fully
grouted and is reinforced with one #5 bars at 24 in. OC., placed in
the center of the wall. Use f’m=2000 psi and assume Type N mortar
cement is used. Compute the interaction diagram per one foot of the
wall length. b) Based on your interaction diagram, is the wall
adequate to carry an axial load of Pu =30 kip/ft and a moment of
Mu=5k-ft/ft (ignore the effects of p-delta)?
