If the wood beam is 7.25" wide, determine the required depth, d, if the wood beam allowable normal, shear, and flexural stresses of 1700 psi, 180 psi, and 1500 psi, respectively b. If the A36 steel rod brace (member BD) has a diameter of 2" (assume the rod does not buckle): i. Determine the change in length of the rod? ii. Does the rod get shorter or longer? iii. Determine if the rod is adequate assuming an allowable normal stress equal to 60% of the yield stress. -6 ft
