The in-situ moisture content of a soil is 14% and the moist unit weight is 17.3 kN/m³. This soil is to be excavated and transported to the construction site for use in a compacted soil. If the specifications call for the soil/fill to be compacted to a moisture unit weight of 18.5 kN/m³ with moisture content of 11%. The soil has a specific gravity (Gs) of 2.6. a. How many cubic meters of soil from the excavation site are needed to produce 2000 m³ of compacted fill? b. Calculate the void ratio (e) and degree of saturation (S) of the compacted soil/fill. c.
