Question 3 [30 Marks] A 9 m long steel beam is subjected to uniformly distributed loads (applied at the shear center) and end moments. The beam is unbraced along the span. The beam section consists of three plates welded together (See Fig.3). The moment diaphragm obtained from structural analysis is shown in Fig.3 and Table 1. Assume S235 steel with E-210 GPa and G-81 GPa.. Based on the EC3, it is required to: (1) Determine classifications for the beam; (2) Calculate the design section modulus (W,) for the beam; (3) Check if the flexural strength of the beam is sufficient.
