Question 1 [25 Marks] A steel end plate ($275, thickness=10 mm) is used to connect a column and a beam as shown in Fig. 1. The connection for column is a group of bolts (M 20) and the connection for beam is fillet welds. Given Q=200 kN, T=30 kN and My-12 kN-m (applied at centriod of the bolt group), it is required to: (1) Determine the design shear (Fv,Ed) and tensile (F₁,Ed) forces at the most critical bolt; (2) Check if the bending strength for the plate is sufficient according to EC3; (3) Check if the strength of welds is sufficient according to EC 3 using the simplified method. 40 40 My 2@75-150 2@75=150 Column 40 40 10 Figure.1.
