A steel end plate (S275, thickness=10 mm) is used to connect a column and a beam as
shown in Fig.1. The connection for column is a group of bolts (M 20) and the connection for beam is fillet welds. Given Q=200 kN, T=30 kN and My=12 kN-m (applied at centriod of the bolt group), it is required to:
(1) Determine the design shear (Fv,Ed) and tensile (Ft,Ed) forces at the most critical bolt; (2) Check if the bending strength for the plate is sufficient according to EC3;
(3) Check if the strength of welds is sufficient according to EC 3 using the simplified
method.

The connection for column is a group of bolts (M 20) and the connection for beam is fillet welds. Given Q-200 kN, T-30 kN and My-12 kN-m (applied at centriod of the bolt group), it is required to: (1) Determine the design shear (F.Ea) and tensile (F₁Ea) forces at the most critical bolt; (2) Check if the bending strength for the plate is sufficient according to EC3; (3) Check if the strength of welds is sufficient according to EC 3 using the simplified method. 8 40 M₂ 2@75-150 Column 40 10 40 Figure.1.
