(2a) Very Long Baseline Interferometry observations showed that the radio shell of the su- pernova SN1993J expanded 2.95 × 10-³ arcsec over 1500 days. Optical spectral observations showed that the Ho line, with a rest wavelength of 656.28 nm, was observed at a wavelength of 620.03 nm. Use this information to obtain an initial (rough) estimate of the distance to SN1993J, and thereby demonstrate that this supernova occurred outside the Milky Way. State any assumptions you are making. [12 marks]. (2b) Determine the redshift of M81, the galaxy in which SN1993J occurred, based on the distance you obtained. Comment on how this relates to assumptions you may have made in part (a). [4 marks]
