Consider a free shear flow in which the mean velocity and the Reynolds shear stress profiles are observed to be self similar downstream (a) A plane wake at a location downstream has the velocity defect decrease from 2 m/sec at the centerline to 1.213 m/s at a transverse distance of 0.2 m above it. Find the location and the value of the maximum in the Reynolds stress profile. Assume the turbulent Reynolds number is ReT = 12.5 (b) In the self similar region of a plane jet show that U≈ x-¹/² and d≈x. Here, U is the centerline velocity, x is the distance downstream, and is the width of the jet. Clearly specify all assumptions and show steps.
