5. A compression member is subjected to service loads of 265 kips dead load and 735 kips live load. The member is 25 feet long and pinned in each end. Use (A572-Gr 50) steel and select a W14 shape (refer the lecture slides for more details) (10 Points). 6. Estimate the shrinkage that will occur in a four-story wood-frame wall that uses Hem-Fir lumber. Consider a decrease in moisture from 20 to 15 percent (Hint: similar to Ex. 1 of lecture in Timber section) (10 Points).
