Problem No. 1 A manufacturing plant is discharging its wastewater into a stream at a constant rate of 0.3 m³/s. The concentration of a contaminant in the wastewater is given as 40 g/m³. If the average stream flow upstream of the discharge point is 6 m³/s and the average cross- sectional area of the stream is 6 m², what is the concentration of the contaminant in the stream at the discharge point and at a point 20 km downstream? For your calculations, assume that the contaminant undergoes a first-order removal with a rate coefficient of 0.2/day.
