ENGR 3024 Mechanics of Materials Combined Loading Project Spring 2020 This document will be submitted as a formal analysis. (This means a neat, well- annotated homework problem). You will pick from several combined loading scenarios provided by your instructor. Your analysis should include the following parts: *Identify which stresses are negligible. Negligible in this context should be taken to mean two orders of magnitude. For example, if the largest stress is a normal stress with a value of 22,000 psi, any stress type with a magnitude of 220psi or less is then considered negligible. (This means you should calculate them all and determine which meet the negligible criteria) o shear from torsion o linear shear o axial normal stress o bending normal stress • Identify and discuss assumptions or simplifications made (regarding materials, rationale ● Free body diagram of the structure (external loads AND reactions!) • ● Calculations to determine the stress state(s) you will evaluate for factor of safety Diagram indicating where on your structure the pertinent stress state(s) occur. Diagram (s) of the pertinent stress state(s) (2-D or 3-D projection, see bottom of CP 5-8) • .
