In 4 sentences or more, explain why you you enjoyed
reading my response and what you agree or disagree with:
Question: You are the HR manager for a call center in the United
States where about 400 employees work in cubicles, earning between
$15 and $25 per hour. Employees receive 10 days of PTO each year
(including holidays and sick leave). Your president is concerned
because your turnover rate is increasing, recruiting is more
challenging, and many employees seem stressed. She allocates
$80,000 in funds for a wellness initiative; this budget may or may
not be renewed in future years depending on results and company
performance. Propose how you would spend this money to improve
employee health, safety, and/or well-being, and briefly explain why
you think this would be a cost-effective way to benefit employees
and the organization. What type of data would you collect before
implementing your proposal? How would you evaluate its
effectiveness after implementation?

I would propose a health stipend for each employee, that can be spent on doctors visits, gym membership, ergonomic equipment, sports equipment, therapy; anything that promotes health or fitness. That means each person could receive a 200 dollar stipend for the year, which I find acceptable regardless if the company decides to extend this for future years. There are some gyms that only cost 10 dollars a month, while the majority cost $30-40. I think there is nothing more important than investing in the health of those we care about, and our textbook tells us that stressed employees can be distracted, and this stress can even lead to accidents. I am a big fan of surveys, and I think if management encourages employees to partake in easy surveys, then management and HR can track employee satisfaction. Along with this survey feedback, HR can measure future turnover as a way to measure this funding and its impact. Perhaps in future years, if feedback is positive and retention is up, we can continue funding for similar initiatives.
