While 10% of the population are LH, nearly 30% of the MLB players – both pitchers and hitters – are LH. Further, approximately 10% of hitters in the MLB are Switch Hitters and, thus, are able to take advantage of any match up against a pitcher. It goes without saying that the remaining 60% of hitters are RHH.
You are the General Manager of the Chicago White Sox. You have just received a scouting report that the percentage of LHH in college baseball – your source for hiring – has dropped dramatically to ~20% of batters. Switch Hitters are still 10%, but RHH are now 70% of available hitters.
