3. (a) A medical grade diatomic gas Z2 (1000 grams) behaves
non-ideally and must be kept at a temperature of 22 ℃. Given that
only 75000 cm3 storage tanks are available, determine the maximum
pressure allowed for storage. Assuming the gas behaved ideally, how
would your answer differ? van der Waals constant for ‘Z2’ - a: 1.25
L2 atm mol-2 ; b: 0.0318 L mol-1 Atomic mass of Z = 17 g/mol (10
marks) (b) Surface sanitizers were prepared using ethyl
alcohol/water and isopropyl alcohol/water solutions. An experiment
was done to determine which composition would be most effective and
as such two solutions were formulated: 70 % v/v ethyl alcohol and
70 % v/v isopropyl alcohol. Calculate the vapour pressure of these
solutions and use your answer to reason which combination would
stay on the surface longer. (10 marks) P o (Ethyl alcohol) = 12.4
kPa P o (Isopropyl alcohol) = 4.4 kPa P o (Water) = 2.4 kPa
