PSW is Personal Support Worker or Nursing Assistant. The questions are based on the Scenario given above. Mosby's Canadian Textbook For The Support Worker can be of help.
Sarah is a PSW working at Sheridan College Long-Term Care facility, her alarm clock didn't go off this morning and she knows she is going to be late. She rushes through the doors at 0710; her shift starts at 0700. She is wearing the same uniform she had on yesterday. Sarah doesn't go to the cloak room, instead she brings her coat and bag with her. She assumes she has the same assignment that she had yesterday. As she rushes down the hall her colleague calls out to ask for help to transfer a client with the mechanical lift. Sarah ignores her and continues down the hall to see Mr. Smith. Mr. Smith is sleeping soundly; she dumps her things on the chair in his room. Sarah shakes him gently and tells him its time to get up. Next Sarah heads to Mrs. Turcot's room, who is NPO. She is sitting up in bed and scolds Sarah for being late, she is anxious to get up and is feeling distressed. Sarah transfers her to a wheelchair and moves her into the bathroom. Sarah then goes to the supply cart to get fresh towels for her. While in the hall, she notices Mr. Begley, her resident, walking in the hall with no shoes, his pajama bottoms are soaked with urine and he is asking Sarah where he should go. Sarah ignores Mr. Begley returns to Mrs. Turcot's room, proceeds to help her get washed and dressed and then wheels her the dining room. Five minutes later the RPN finds Sarah to inform her that her resident, Mr. Jones is being picked up by wheel trans at 0730 for an appointment with a specialist. The RPN states she is surprised to see Sarah. Answer the following questions based on this scenario. 1. List 6 professional actions Sarah has breached in this scenario. 2. List 5 infection control protocols that have been breached. 3. Considering Sarah's 4 clients, list in priority how Sarah should have planned their care. 4. List 4 ways the safety of the residents has been compromised because she was late. 5. Considering therapeutic communication, how should Sarah respond to the scolding she received from Mrs. Turcot? Indicate in a sentence what you would say; be specific.
