According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 53% of all full-time
college undergraduates in 2000 held down a job while in
school.
a) Suppose a random sample of 125 undergraduates is obtained and
each person is asked whether they are currently working a job while
in school. Completely describe the sampling distribution of p-hat,
provided that the 53% figure is correct.
b) What is the probability that the number of those sampled who
have a job is 54 or less? Hint: First determine p-hat.
c) Given your probability in part b, can you conclude that
working while in college is less prevalent now than reported in
2000? Explain.
