(a) A sample of 15 male workers gives a sample mean of £73.20 and a sample standard deviation of £2.50. Use this information to test the economist's claim at the 5% level of significance. (12 marks] (b) A sample of 20 female workers in this industry gives a mean income of £69.30 and a sample standard deviation of £3.00. Test the hypothesis that the mean income of women is the same as that of men (i.e., £72.40 per week) against the alternative that women have a lower mean income. Use a 1% significance level for this test. [13 marks]
