1. A city is served by 2 newspapers, the Star and the Times. Each year the Star loses 23% of its subscribers to the Times and retains 77% of its subscribers. During the same time period, the Times subscribers loses 16% of its subscribers to the Star while retaining the other 84%. a) Write down a Markov matrix (Stochastic matrix) that describers the transition of the subscribers between the 2 papers each year. b) If this year 35% of the paper buying public is subscribing to the Times, run a Markov chain of at least 5 to see if it would be wise to invest in either paper for the next 5 years. c) Find the steady-state vector for the matrix in (a). d) After many years, what percentage of the subscribers will subscribe to the Times? 2. Enter the matrix: A2 = [[2*eye(2);zeros(2)], ones(4,2] Explain (using the MATLAB commands below why MATLAB makes the matrix it does).
