You have been asked to select a 02-series angular contact ball bearing with a 55 mm bore that is loaded with a 1400 lb radial load and a 1250 lb axial (thrust) load. The thrust load is in one direction only. The outer ring rotates at 50 rev/min, while the inner ring remains stationary. While doing the calculation, use Manufacturer 2 in the Weibull Parameters table and an application factor of 1.3 if needed.(Note: 1 kN = 224 lbs). A. [6 points] Determine the equivalent radial load that will be experienced by the bearing. B. [4 points] Determine whether the bearing can be expected to carry this load with a 90% reliability for 15kh C. [5 points] Suppose that an additional bearing (identical to the first bearing) is added to the shaft and we now double the equivalent load. Assuming that equivalent load is shared equally amongst the two bearings, e.g. each bearing takes the original equivalent load we determined in part (a), determine the maximum predicted life in hours that this system of two bearings could be expected to give in this application with an overall 90% reliability.
