Q2. (60%) Answer the following questions for the following beam system shown below: a) Determine the nodal displacements? (10%) b) Determine the normal stress at the middle of all three elements (el, e2, and e3)? You can calculate the stresses at outer and inner fibers. The height of the el can be taken as 0.1 m, and e2, e3 as 0.05 m. Hint: Consider the cross section is rectangular for all elements. Knowing the height you can find the cross sectional properties. The height is used to determine the distance to neutral axis for stress calculations. (10%) c) Determine the principal stresses and von-Mises stress at the middle of all three elements (el, e2, and e3) (10%) d) Verify your results using ME 212 Solid Mechanics knowledge (i.e. draw shear force, bending moment diagrams and use flexure formula). (10%) e) Verify your results using ANSYS software? (10%) f) Double the number of elements in ANSYS and compare the results from part e and f. Discuss the results? (10%) 2400N/m 1QOON 1 e1 e2 4 N 3 e3 10m 12m 6m Ex=200 GPa 1,=0.0001 m Ex=200 GPa 12=0.00005 m
