A uniform cross section of rectangular fin, with a dimension of 5 mm x 50 mm and a length of 50 mm, are attached at a wall with a surface temperature (T.) of 350 °C. The fin was made of material with thermal conductivity of 400 W/m.K. The ambient air (T.) and convection heat transfer coefficient (h.) is 30°C and 300 W/m².K, respectively. Assume there is no heat loss from the fin tip. Find the fin temperature at a distance of 45 mm from the base. (5 marks) Determine the rate of heat loss from the entire fin. (4 marks) Determine the fin efficiency and effectiveness. Explain the difference between these two (2) values. (9 marks) -) A thick slab of material (k = 65 W/m.K, C; = 500 J/kg.K, p= 7800kg/m) is initially at a temperature of 400 °C and suddenly the surface of slab temperature drop and maintain its temperature. Assuming that the surface is maintained at the temperature of 35 °C throughout the cooling system. Determine time for the temperature to reach 50 °C at a distance of 40 mm from the surface.
