6 In the UK, a power station with an available head of 220m, has four Francis turbines, each with a rated output of 40MW and connected to a generator with 7 pole pairs. At their design point, they have an efficiency of 95%. (a) Assuming a local blade velocity of 42 m/s and a blade angle of 17° at the outlet, discuss any assumptions you make to calculate: (1) The dynamic head at the outlet, (4) (11) The draft tube radius, and (4) (111) The runner outlet dimensions (area and blade height), (3) (b) Assuming a runner with constant height, determine the runner blade angle at the inlet if the runner diameter is 50% larger than the outlet diameter. (12) (c) Calculate the required angle of the guide vanes. (2)
