In Salem, Oregon, a simple pendulum of length 4.19742 metersstarts from rest and swings down from an unknown angle. When it isvertical, it smashes into a peg at the midpoint of its length. Thependulum then swings across to the other side and becomes exactlyhorizontal at its turnaround point. It then swings back to itsoriginal location.
Determine the time it takes to do so. Be as exact aspossible.
Hint #1: Do not use the formula for the period of a small-anglependulum.
Hint #2: Use conservation of energy and trigonometry todetermine the initial angle.
Please explain the math steps very simply/carefully! I havenever taken calculus, and it's been a long time since I took trig.I get lost easily.
