It will be extremely important in this experiment to exclude large environmental particles (e.g., dust) from your sample, because they scatter light more intensely than smaller particles. How much more? How would the scattered light intensity of a 1 um diameter dust particle compare to that of a 30 nm diameter latex particle, assuming they were made of the same material?
