ICD-11 is official but not for the United States! The WorldHealth Organization (WHO) is advocating for all countries to begintransitioning to the coding system. The United States justconverted to ICD-10 in October 2015. It was a major step afterplanning for over five years. American Medical Association at therequest from physician population, to postpone or stopimplementation of ICD-10 coding systems. ICD-9 coding system was inexistence for over 35 years. The coding system was outdated andtheir were no room for expansion. The American Health InformationManagement Association (AHIMA) supports the transition to ICD-11but much will need to be done. Training of all coders, billers,physicians, and clinical professionals. Health systems and variousclaim forms will need to be revised. The entire process withtransitioning is costly.
