Suppose the response of a cell is enhanced if ON regions (white) are illuminated or if OFF regions (black) are darkened. As below, different patterns of gratings, like dark-bright or bright-dark, could be utilized as stimulus for reverse correlation of a simple cell. Answer if the method is applicable to a complex cell and explain the reason
